5 Day Challenge for Aspiring Authors. Day 3 | Make time!

Missed Day 2? Check it out here

Today’s challenge: Set a writing appointment with yourself and keep it!

As much as I wished they did, books do not write themselves. It’s that simple. It will never get done if you don’t make time for it. Quit waiting for inspiration to hit you like lightning. Sometimes you just have to get going and let inspiration catch up. Set a time today, and start to write.

While it seems like a simple idea, the truth is that most of us find it hard to prioritize our day to get the most out of it. You will find that everything else seems urgent and important. The days roll into months and years, and your writing goals are left on the back burner. But you can prevent this.  To succeed with your writing goals, you have to make time; this is absolutely crucial.

Block out time on your calendar and guard it with all your heart. Think of it as a meeting with your boss. You can’t miss it, or there will be consequences. You’re your own boss when it comes to your writing goals so take it seriously. Stop talking about that book you want to write. Just sit down and get it done. That’s productivity.

Your Action Plan

Set a time, mark your calendar, set a reminder and go to town. Even if you only end up with one typo-ridden paragraph. It’s a start. Celebrate!

Tell me about your plans to start making time today. How will you ensure that you keep your writing appointments?Leave a comment or email me at remiroy@remiroyonline.com

Head on to Day 4!

May all your dreams come true, with pomp and splendor!

  1. This is the crux of the matter for me. You said it well..stop waiting for inspiration to hit you…but even though I make out time and no inspiration hits at that time?

    1. Hi Amina. I know that happens. It helps to have a content plan, that way you’re not relying on inspiration, you can just get started and let inspiration follow. Create a content plan and go from there. All the best!
