Are you a writer or on the journey to being comfortable enough to call yourself one? Well, this post is for you. If you’re like me, you probably set writing goals at the beginning of the year. Consider this your routine check-in. How are you doing on those goals?
If you’re struggling to keep up, here are four important things you need to do.
1. Be intentional. Take determined steps that will lead you where you want to go. Being intentional should be your mantra for 2017. Your book isn’t going to write itself. Good things don’t happen because we wish or want them to. They don’t happen because we wrote them on our goal list either. I know it sounds good to be a published author or a writer, but that’s not enough. You have to do the work. Are you intentional about your book writing?
2. Be disciplined. Are you being disciplined with your time? This is a vital issue. How do you use your discretionary time? Every time you catch yourself saying ‘I’m too busy.’ Stop and analyze your days. How do you spend your free time? Take the pockets of time you do get and make the best of it. Use every opportunity you get to write your book and create content. You’ll be glad you did.
3. Follow through. You have to get good at following through. Do you find yourself starting projects but never following through? Maybe you started writing a book and lost interest and momentum, or you started a blog and somehow gave it up and didn’t continue working on it? These things happen but to achieve results you have to get better at finishing what you start. No matter how much energy and work you put into something at the beginning, nobody sees it, and frankly, nobody cares until you produce results. If you don’t finish, all that work goes to waste. It’s not the beginning that matters; it’s what you create at the end of the day.
4. Do things differently. If you’re not consistently creating content, you’re either doing something wrong or not doing enough work to produce results. You have to make a change. Every day is a new opportunity to ramp up your commitment to your book writing goals. Take it, Run with it.
You can do it.
